As three of the major organs of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, meet tomorrow (Wednesday) in Abuja, the national leadership of Arewa PDP Support Group, APSG, has called on the party to throw the 2023 presidential ticket of the party open to all the zones in the country.
The PDP is expected to take some decisions on issues of crucial national importance at the meetings.
The National Caucus, Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the party are scheduled to hold in Abuja on Wednesday.
While the National Caucus meeting is expected to hold at the Akwa Ibom Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja; by 10:00am, the BoT and NEC meetings have been fixed for the NEC hall at the PDP headquarters by 2pm and 4pm respectively.
The National Secretary of Arewa PDP Support Group, Hon Desmond Minakaro, said in a statement yesterday that throwing open the presidential ticket to all zones is the best option in the interest fairness, justice and equity.
Hon. Minakaro, in the statement, said, “As the NEC and BoT meet tomorrow. It is our candid opinion that PDP Presidential ticket should be thrown open to all zones”.
The APSG argued that throwing open the ticket open to all the six geo-political zones in the country will help to ensure the emergence of the best presidential candidate for the party.
The PDP is yet to take a definite decision on the zoning of its presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Aspirants from both the North and Southern regions have been indicating interest in the race.
