A boat carrying 100 passengers traveling from Duggar in Kanji axis of Borgu local government area of Niger state to Wara in Kebbi state capsized.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Hussain, confirmed the incident to newsman in Minna, said that the agency has received a report of the boat mishap.

He explained that the incident occurred in the afternoon yesterday around 2:05 pm carrying passengers and goods such as grains and sugar cane worth millions of naira we’re involved in the incident.

According to him, the boat departed from Dugga Mashaya in Dugga ward, headed towards Wara market in Kebbi State with the said number of passengers on board.

Hussaini noted that search and rescue operations are ongoing, conducted by local divers, NSEMA Desk Officers, and local government officials are on ground to give details in due course.

“As of the time of writing this interim report, no clear information about deaths and survivors.”
