Niger state Governor Umar Muhammad Bago has threatened to privatize state own media outlet for optimum productivity.
The Governor stated this when he received the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Niger State Council led by the Chairman Comrade Abu Nmodu at the Government House Minna assuring to change the narrative of deplorable media houses in the state for better.
The governor explained that the state expects more revenue generation from the media outlets but received nothing or less, therefore there was the need to privatize them for more revenue generations and enhanced competitiveness.
He also advised journalists to collaborate with the state government for better working relationship, urging the media to be proactive in the discharge of their duties, stating that it was time for journalists in the state to do the needful by contributing meaningfully to the development of the state.
Governor Umar Bago reiterated that the palliative programme is not sustainable, hence advise Nigerlites to go out while he collect their palliatives and appealed to the media, communities and the citizens to adequately monitor the entire process of the distribution and report where there are defaults to relevant authorities.
Earlier, Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Niger State Council, Comrade Abu Nmodu appealed for the renovation and remodeling of state own media outlets, journalists welfare package as well as appreciated the governor for appointing some of it members as part of his cabinet.
