Angwan Daji Senior Magistrate court sitting in Minna Niger State presided over by Hafsatu Abdul Bawa Wuse has ordered the remand of a 55 years old man in correctional facility for raping a six years old minor.

Yau Ibrahim of Kungu village in Rafi local government area of Niger State was arraigned in the court on two count charges which bothering on unlawful sexual intercourse with a child ,sexual abuse and exploitation.

The offence which the defendant is standing trial for is grievous in nature hence his remand in correctional facility.

According to the police prosecutor inspector, Aliyu Yakubu Kuta the offences contravened section 26 (2) and 27 (2) of the Niger child right and protection law of Niger State 2021 as amended.

According to the prosecutor, the 55 years old defendant during the police investigation confessed and admitted to had a sexual intercourse with the six years old child who is his grand daughter in his room, hence he should be summarily convicted.

When the charge were read to the defendant by the presiding senior Magistrate Hafsat Abdul Bawa Wuse who pleaded guilty to the two count charges and pleaded for leniency.

She agreed with the submission of the prosecutor, however adjourned the case to eleven September 2023 for the commencement of hearing and for taken of witnesses.
