National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Commission N-HYPPADEC has set up mechanism through collaboration with its states for ensuring food security in the nation.
The N-HYPPADEC Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa made this known during its second meeting with the 10 Commissioners of Agriculture from the commission’s state held in Minna, Niger state capital.
He advocatied for the use of improved and high-quality seedlings, promoting the adoption of small Power Tillers and encouraging viable processing and storage techniques such as Threshers, Solar Dryers and portable cooling storage systems among others.
Sadiq Yelwa emphasized that it’s going to be a technical collaboration to enhanced food security through timely intervention as the commission will apply a pivotal role in supporting the states in their areas of comparative advantage and policy implementations.
The MD stated that the meeting serves as a follow-up to those experiences and aims to engage in thoughtful deliberations that will shape policies for the sustainable development of agriculture in the riverine communities, called for collective knowledge, experience and commitment in addressing their challenges in the states.
In his welcome address, Director Community and Rural Development N-HYPPADEC, Dr. Mahmud Muhammad said it’s a deliberation collaboration aimed at shaping the agricultural policies of our esteemed commission, we are united by a common goal: to foster sustainable agricultural practices, enhance food security, and promote rural development across our states.
The commissioners of Benue and Kebbi states Prof. Moses Ojah and Shehu Mu’azu applauded the Commission’s leadership for the efforts being made to introduce small machinery in farm production which will reduced cost to achieve food security in the region and entire country.
