Niger State House of Assembly has declared a state of emergency on Abuja Distribution Company (AEDC) and asked it to leave the State forthwith.
It said the the AEDC was not ready to do business in line with international best practices.
The resolution was reached by the lawmakers when they summoned the Regional Manager of the company during plenary to explain why the state is faced with epileptic power supply in the past few months.
The Speaker, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji Represented by the Deputy Speaker Afinike Dauda condemned the distribution company, saying Niger State
has about four hydroelectric Power dams supplying electricity to the country and wondered why the power state has no power.
The lawmakers unanimously asked AEDC to leave the business of power distribution for people who are willing to compete and uphold their obligations in the sector.
Meanwhile the chief operation officer of the distribution company Okwuokenye Chijioke explained that some of the
reasons for the poor supply of electricity in the state includes the accumulated debt worth three billion naira, poor payment structure by the consumers among others.
