Niger state council of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has decried that over 400 of its members have retired from the state service in the last 8 years without replacement.
The State Chairperson, Comrade Anna Simon made this known at the opening ceremony of the association’s 2023 State delegates conference in Minna.
She lamented over the high rate of shortage of nurses in the state.
Comrade Anna Simon stated that lack of political will on the part of the immediate past government was the major cause of the deficit hence the need for the government of governor Mohammed Umar Bago to ensure the recruitment of professional nurses to enhanced effective and efficient service delivery.
The outgoing chairperson NANNM further said that the deplorable condition of health structures was discouraging and appealed for a better welfare package to ensure productivity in the system.
