The National Chairman Nigeria Legion, Major General Abdulmalik Jibril (rtd) has commended the president Muhammadu Buhari and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya,for supporting Nigeria Legion, veterans in creating opportunities for legionnaires to have exposure to foreign special training in United States.
Jibril said the opportunity gave them physical accessibility to their foreign veterans to share their experiences.
He made this remark in Abuja after a five day training for some legionnaires at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at Michigan , USA.
He added that the international exposure will reposition the Nigeria Legion to engage in suitable undertakings for the training, employment and settlement of ex-servicemen and the education of their children.
The Director of Corporate Affairs Nigeria Legion, Morenike Grace Henry said,” I thank the Chief of Army Staff and Mr President for their assistance in enabling the Legion to reposition itself in keeping to its mandate of providing training for veterans among other things”.
Morenike explained “Legion will be able to engage in suitable activities for the training, employment and settlement of ex-servicemen and the education of their children as they engage relevant authorities for more coordination and support”
Meanwhile, Director Veteran Affairs Nigeria Army, Maj.-Gen. MT Durowaiye who led the Nigerian veterans affairs team on official visit and the 5 day training at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Facilities at Michigan, USA reported that After our team toured the centre and got socialized with the veterans at the centre.
They were able to have idea of the training idea of Transitional Housing , Veteran Rescue Program , Life Skills , Employment Training , Health Care Services , Transportation and Meal among others.
The General added that “The visiting Nigerian Veteran team was able to interact with some of the United States of America veterans.
It was a great experience, the team also learned about the process of bringing in the veterans from the street and processing them into the safety.’’
