The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said it will reply modern technologies to curb crimes in the country.
The Commandant of the Service Abubakar Audi stated this on Wednesday during the 2nd Commandant General’s Conference in Abuja.
“We must begin to deploy new strategies in tackling the spate of insecurity in the land. In this direction, the Corps has prioritized training and retraining, as well as procurement of modern operational and communication equipment in our determination to further enhance the capacity of the Corps.
“Without doubt, with the current security threats, emphasis should be more on proactiveness as regards provision of credible and actionable intelligence which is quite paramount if we must checkmate and effectively address this menace.
“In addition, the need to intensify public awareness and enlightenment campaign to educate the general public on the need to be security conscious and report any suspicious movements or persons to the nearest security post cannot be overemphasized.
He said the corps under his leadership is determined and fully committed to the enhancement of the capacity, skills and competences of the Corps operatives to build their expertise, professional conduct and to advance their knowledge for better performance.
“The Corps has therefore intensified its aggressive training drive in this direction especially in the area of Arms and Weapon Handling, Surveillance and Intelligence Gathering, Drills and Regimentation, Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanism among others.
“For instance, some Corps personnel from the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Corps and below who have been undergoing three (3) months intensive training at the Civil Defence Command and Staff College Jos, will be passing out on Monday 14th August, 2023 while a new set of personnel from the rank of Superintendent will be admitted to training immediately.
“We will continue to dedicate and focus more attention on training in the area of surveillance and intelligence gathering which is key in our quest towards finding lasting solution to the prevailing security situation.”
Audi added that the Corps will strengthen security to safeguard the Country’s Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.
“As the Lead Agency, we should continue to take proactive and pragmatic steps through covert and overt operations, discrete investigation and intelligence gathering to track down those who engage in acts capable of undermining the security and integrity of our collective patrimony.
“It is against this backdrop that I want to charge you to intensify patrol, monitoring and surveillance of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure in all formations across the Country including the FCT to guard against oil theft, vandalization, violent attacks, and or sabotage.”
