The Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Audi, has said that the corps under him surmounted many challenges.

Speaking on Tuesday, to commemorate the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO), Audi said, “I came on board at one of the most challenging times in the Corps history when the morale of the personnel has shrunk to an abysmal low. But to the glory of God, we have been able to surmount these challenges and have succeeded in lifting the spirit of the Corps personnel.

“I can boldly state at this moment, that the Corps is now on course towards effectively executing its mandate.

“My first priority was to restore the pride and glory of the Corps and boost the morale of its personnel by introducing a lot of transformational programmes and reforms in line with my vision to reposition and oil the operational machinery of the Corps for improved performance. I immediately embarked on a mission to reorganize and revolutionize the training apparatus of the Corps in order to sharpen the skills and competencies of the Corps personnel to effectively cope with the challenges of the present posed by dangerous developments of insecurity in the Country occasioned by nefarious activities of bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, ritualists, armed robbers, armed conflicts, ethnic militias, communal clashes etc.

“In this connection, the Management under my supervision has continued to make conscious and concerted efforts to focus on strengthening the capacity and manpower needs of the Corps in order to position the personnel to effectively execute its mandate and tackle the challenge of insecurity in the Country. This we have done by embarking on aggressive training and retraining of the Corps personnel while making staff welfare, top priority.

“It is heartwarming to state that as at today, the efforts of the Corps Management has begun to yield positive result as the presence of the Corps can be felt in every nooks and crannies of the Country where our personnel could be seen diligently, religiously and professionally executing the Corps mandate while at the same time effectively synergizing with the Military and Other Sister Agencies to provide round the clock security to safeguard lives and properties of the citizens of this great Nation.

“I can proudly raise my head high and make bold to state that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps has distinguished itself and has recorded a lot of success stories. Between year 2021 when I came on board and now, the Corps has made several arrests and prosecutions while a lot of convictions have been recorded especially in our renewed onslaught on vandals, oil thieves etc. while at the same time making concerted efforts to checkmate incidents/cases of attacks on Critical National Assets and Infrastructure among others in our determination to stamp out nefarious activities of criminal elements involved in this unwholesome act. We are at the same time carrying out reform processes aimed at repositioning the Private Guards Security Industry for better service delivery.”
